How do I add an assignment category for grades using PowerGrade?

Categories allow you to group assignments by type (exams, labs, projects, etc.). You must create at least one category before you add an assignment.

Before beginning this process make sure that you have grouped common classes (more info here).

1. Connect to Citrix/PowerGrade.
2. Open a class in PowerGrade.
3. Click on Windows and choose Categories.
4. Click on the New Category button.
5. In the Category Name field enter the name of your new category. Examples: homework, exams, quizzes, reports or labs. NOTE: do not use the same name for a category and included assignment. If the category and assignment names are the same the assignment name will display as Segment_1.
6. Enter an abbreviation for this Category.
7. Dflt Pts Poss (that's Default Points Possible). If most of the assignments will have the same number of points (i.e. four exams worth 100 points each) enter the information here. When you create an assignment in this category the points will automatically fill in. Otherwise, you can skip this field.
8. If you do not use weighting this step may be skipped as well. The weighting will apply to the setup of a final grade.
9. Click on the Accept button. The new category will appear in the list to the left.
10. To add a new category, click on the New Category button and go to step 5.
