Period 4: Dig into the Pocket Marble Maze

Period 5: Marble Tracks update:

I think I have printed all submitted marble tracks except for these that need some fine-turning.

When you clean off your marble tracks, throw all the plastic trees away.  Do not leave the plastic trees for me to clean up.

Quinn – revise spinner and support posts – let’s look at a square base for the funnel support posts.

Connor – the marble sphere is still in your print, high above the funnel.

Dillon – marble sphere still in print.

Today is all about your Marble Tracks

  1. Assignment review.
  2. Demo of the Tinkercad gravity feature that you will use to test your track.
  3. Talk to your uphill and downhill neighbors:
-alignment of entry and exit for marble
  4. Work time on your design.
  5. Before you submit your design:
    -remove the marble
-make sure that all parts of your design are attached
-make sure that your design is flat on the build plate
    -THEN show me your design

Part 1: Eric was the first to ask the important question for adding LEDs to your 3d prints, “What should we add for tolerance?”  I said “Nothing”.

And I was wrong.

Example: the green LED measured out at 4.6mm for the small diameter and 5.4mm for the base.  I changed the measurements to 5.1mm and 6.1mm to get a good fit.   I should have thought first.

Part 2: Intro to SculptGL – 3d sculpting tool.  We will learn the basics of SculptGL, make a face, import into Tinkercad and add holes for LEDs.

  1. Click here to visit SculptGL: https://stephaneginier.com/sculptgl/
  2. We will work together BUT here’s a very solid tutorial for SculptGL.
