How to create a seating chart

In PowerGrade version 4.0 (upgraded 9/2002), seating charts may be used to take attendance. The first step is to create a seating chart. This information can also be found in the PowerGrade 4.0 manual -page 65- which can be downloaded by clicking here.

For seating chart printing, click here.

1. Open PowerGrade and click on the Seating icon.
2. You will have to indicate the size of the box that will represent each seat. The ideal size varies based on the number of students enrolled in the class.

3. Click into the Width field and change the number indicated. TRY .5 to start.
Repeat the same process for the Height. Again, try .5 for the Height.

The number of rows and columns can also be changed to match your classroom layout. It is OK to have more seats than students.

NOTE: If your room is not a standard grid you can still duplicate the shape. For example, if you have a U shaped layout of five chairs on each arm of the U and 6 across the bottom, choose 6 rows and 5 columns. You can delete the center sections (see below) to create the U shape.

4. Click on the OK button when you are done.

5. You seating chart layout will appear.
6. Make sure that you are on the tab titled "Assign Students to Seats". If not, click on it.
7. Click on the Auto assign seats button in the lower left hand corner. The empty boxes will fill with student names.
8. To move a student to another seat, click and drag the seat to an empty seat.
9. Once you have your students in the correct position you can edit the layout. Click on the "Edit Seat Layout" tab.

10. To delete a seat, drag the seat to the Trashcan in the lower left hand corner.

11. To add a seat, click on the Chair.

12. When you are done, click on the save button.
